Joshua 2 is a sweet story that should be near and dear to our hearts at ANC. Rahab the prostitute….by faith….in this moment was redeemed. Her faith saved her.
As we work with the homeless or working poor, or single moms, or ladies in prison….we have to realize there is a moment… that defines us. And I don’t know how long Rahab had been a harlot….but although she was….she was defined in Hebrews as a woman of faith. And that faith, redeemed her and her house.
I was part of church planters meeting yesterday and my main take away was the fact that we celebrate the individual’s salvation, and we should….but we have got realize that when God saves….entire families and future generations are affected. God redeems the individual, but that individual is now a light shining for their entire family. As we talk about relational evangelism, earning the right to be heard…..these things are strategies to reach those further than immediate family….but when we have someone in our lives, a family member who has been radically saved….what a testimony!
Rahab’s entire family was saved, by her faith. It was her action…her decision to harbor the spies.... that not only affected, but did save the actual lives of those she loved. In Hebrew and James, she was identified by her profession….but it was her ‘faith’ that defined her.
