freedom

Romans 8:1-2Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

No condemnation……really……no condemnation….I seem to need to remind myself of this from time to time. Not that we are free to sin, but that we are free to live in the Spirit.

I think the freedom that Paul is experiencing is freedom from the feel of dread….of not being good enough, of having your sins revealed, of beating yourself up over sin, of placing all of your eggs in the basket of Mosaic law, and always falling short.

Its weird to me that some believers would rather live in bondage and legalism than freedom…when it is so clearly offered.

Doesn’t it make sense then that legalists slip into the patterns of relying on the very adherence to the law that is suppose to bring freedom, yet they begin to rely on their actions to merit salvation. In that….there is no freedom.

Wouldn’t it be great for all believers to live in freedom. Maybe the artificial restraints believers place on themselves are the reason Paul goes to great lengths to make the distinction between the two laws…the law of the Spirit and the law of sin and death.
