1 Samuel 9:3b So Kish said to his son Saul, "Take now with you one of the servants, and arise, go search for the donkeys."
6He said to him, "Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and the man is held in honor; all that he says surely comes true Now let us go there, perhaps he can tell us about our journey on which we have set out."
8The servant answered Saul again and said, "Behold, I have in my hand a fourth of a shekel of silver; I will give it to the man of God and he will tell us our way."
God’s plan and provision left to chance? Saul could select ANY one of the servants, yet he selected this one, this servant who knew of the ‘seer’, this servant who knew to ask the seer for direction, and this servant who had an offering.
I laughed this morning at the plan of God unfolding. Samuel was told to look for a man, the man’s physical characteristics, where he would be, and what he would be looking for. It clearly wasn’t Samuels plan unfolding, and the fact that he was a prophet had little to do with the fact that God scattered donkeys to make this appointment happen.
Samuel didn’t feel that Israel needed a king, yet when directed by God, he set out to find God’s man, treat him to a party, and give him the direction and word God wanted to have.
Scattered Donkeys, Servant Leader, Seer, Offering = King
Brandon reminded us of this verse on Sunday…..but I think it fits here as well…..For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.
