Judges 20:17 Israel, apart from Benjamin, mustered four hundred thousand swordsmen, all of them fighting men.
We’ve seen in the past, God doesn’t need huge numbers to carry out his plan.
When God was at the front (just a few chapters ago)
Judges 7:7 The LORD said to Gideon, "With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands.
Did any catch the difference in language;
Judges 20:9 But now this is what we'll do to Gibeah: We'll go up against it as the lot directs.
In this chapter, they are no longer seeking God first…they are arming themselves, consulting lots, and checking with God after the fact.
God may we always seek you first. Sometimes, as men, our knee-jerk reaction is to just handle things….but I pray for reminders, even in the heat of battle, to bring it all to God.
