Eyes Wide Open - Ephesians 2

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Works do not justify, but the justified man works.

This really lets me know it’s about the journey…not only the destination. Growing up in church I don’t know that I was ever taught about the journey. It always seemed about the destination….whether it was my own spiritual maturity (which seemed to be a far off and unattainable goal) or heaven…those two things were so far off it left me uninterested right then.

We were told we should be saved, invite all our friends to church so they could be saved and invite all their friends. I love the fact that God has prepared works for us (opportunities) and that he has prepared us to do them. It doesn’t really matter if we are a seasoned veteran or brand new believer…..he has prepared works for us, at our level…we just need made aware, remain available and open to them.

So be encouraged this morning, enjoy the journey, invite others along the journey with you and keep your eyes open to the opportunities to do good works.

Ecclesiastes 6 - Enjoy the Ride

Ecclesiastes 6 –
God gives a man wealth, possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires, but God does not enable him to enjoy them, and a stranger enjoys them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.
I have seen people like this…so engrossed in their empire, their family, their money, their status….each new wrung that is achieved is never enough. You cant enjoy where you….for the lure of where you think you should be.
I think about “the Journey” we like to talk about at ANC. A few weeks ago, Brandon showed us a picture of a Winnebago Motor Home that their family used for a trip one time. And he reminded us that it isn’t always about the destination….its about the journey. There is fun in the journey, adventure in the journey, there are times that you will never recapture or recreate along the way.
We have become so discontent in our journey…we are always thinking someone elses is better. That is what I love about service with the poor, the oppressed, the marginalized….it is a great reminder that this person….would give their right arm for my journey.
Someone sent me this great example of how discontent we have become in our culture….and he even mentions a journey….on an airplane…..how true is this.
